Analysis on the current situation and development prospect of China's watercolor pigment industry in 2022

With the global pigment production and technology transfer to China, India and other Asian countries, many local enterprises in China have risen rapidly relying on the advantages of resources and human costs, and have made significant progress in the production scale of classical pigments, making the classical organic pigment market almost a fully competitive market.

In april2018, the National Bureau of statistics issued the classification of culture and related industries (2018), which merged "cultural paper manufacturing", "handmade paper manufacturing", "ink and similar products manufacturing", "Arts and crafts pigment manufacturing" and "cultural information chemicals manufacturing" into the category of "cultural auxiliary products manufacturing".

In recent years, China's watercolor pigment industry has significantly improved in terms of product performance, quality, stability and process, and the production and sales of pigments are among the top in the world; However, the product structure is still unreasonable. Most of the products are conventional varieties with low added value. The homogenization phenomenon is serious, and some varieties have overcapacity.

After hundreds of Chinese enterprises successively entered the organic pigment industry, through acceptable quality and absolute price advantages (for example, the Chinese market price of pigment red 170 includes tax of 80 yuan / kg, and the international market price includes tax of about 200 yuan / kg), they began to shake the oligopoly pattern that has been maintained for several decades in 2004, and began to transition to a new pattern.

Foreign investors have invested in China's watercolor pigment market. At present, there are large-scale chlorinated titanium dioxide projects under construction in Ningbo, Shandong, Yingkou, Liaoning and other places in China. The investors of these projects are from the United States, Japan, Australia and other countries. The production capacity of titanium dioxide by chlorination process will increase significantly, and the product quality will also be greatly improved. China is expected to become a truly world inorganic pigment manufacturing center.

With the increasingly strict environmental protection and safety policies, the environmental protection pressure of the pigment manufacturing industry and its downstream industries is increasing. A large number of small and medium-sized enterprises lacking environmental protection investment have shut down their production capacity or stopped production for rectification, which directly affects the production capacity of the pigment manufacturing industry. Therefore, it is imperative for pigment manufacturing enterprises to upgrade their products and processes.
